It is part of a marine protected area that embraces the entire archipelago. The economy of the island is obviously based on tourism that moves the entire induced but in the past another was the wealth of the island: a millenary tradition in the fishing and processing of tuna. The historical memory of this cumbersome past is the Florio factory, now in disuse and a museum, where entire generations of people from Favignano worked; the place where the rais announced the number of tuna caught. The rais is the one who organizes and coordinates his men, the tuna fishermen, and everything that goes into the sea from the nets to the place where the trap would have been placed. Favignana culminates at 314 meters with Monte Santa Caterina. The most enchanting coves are: red cove, blue cove, thin tip, lido gurrone, cove round. In Favignana there are some ancient tuff quarries, now swallowed by the sea. To visit the Villino Florio, seat of the municipality; it is a neo-gothic style building of the late nineteenth century.
